Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers, BYD and SAIC Anji Logistics intend to put in roughly $2.5bn together for 21 11,000 ceu car-carriers at domestic shipyards.

Of these vessels, Cosco Shipping is ordering up to 11, BYD plans eight, and SAIC Anji two.

Ningbo Ocean Shipping (NBOSCO), the liner arm of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, intends to charter two 7,000 ceu LNG dual-fuelled car-carriers.

Fearnley Securities said the EU's quota would reduce tonne-km demand for car-carriers, but overall demand stays positive.
